11 tips for using baking soda well for your health

You certainly have at least one box of baking soda at home. You might have one for baking, one in your fridge to absorb odors, and another under your kitchen sink for cleaning. But you might not know that baking soda can also be used for therapeutic purposes, so maybe you could slip a pack of it into your medicine cabinet too.

10 ways to use baking soda

A box of baking soda costs less than a Euro, making it the one of the most economical home remedies to have on hand. In addition to using it to treat small wounds, you can include baking soda in your regular hygiene routine.

1 As a natural deodorant

If you want to avoid the parabens and aluminum found in many deodorants and antiperspirants, try a mixture of water with a pinch of baking soda. This simple paste is a natural and effective deodorant. You can also simply rub a little dry baking soda on your armpits.

2 Insect and nettle bites

Apply a paste made of baking soda and water to insect bites to soothe the itch. You can also simply rub the dry powder directly onto the skin. This mixture is also effective in relieving itching caused by eczema and nettles. Baking soda helps relieve minor skin irritations and itching by neutralizing toxins and irritating substances on the surface of your skin.

3 stomach, indigestion and sore ulcers

Most over-the-counter antacids contain some form of bicarbonate. Baking soda works by instantly neutralizing stomach acid, helping to relieve heartburn, indigestion, and even sore ulcers. The dosage is usually 1/2 teaspoon to be dissolved completely in half a glass of water, to be drunk every two hours (do not take more than seven 1/2 teaspoons in 30 hours, or three 1/2 scoops if you have more than 60 years).This remedy can only be used on an occasional basis (not as a chronic treatment) and be careful not to consume it excessive amounts, which can lead to serious electrolyte and acid-base imbalances.

4 Foot bath and exfoliant

Add three tablespoons of baking soda to a basin of hot water for an invigorating foot bath. You can rub your feet with a paste made from baking soda to add an exfoliating effect. You can also make a face and body scrub by mixing three parts baking soda with one part water. It is a natural product, inexpensive and gentle enough to be used every day.

Lounging in a mixture of baking soda and apple cider is as pleasant as a bath in a real jacuzzi. And it cleans the tub and drains as a bonus!

A review of data from five controlled clinical studies found that toothpaste containing baking soda “significantly improves the effectiveness of toothbrushing in removing plaque” compared to brushing with toothpaste without baking soda.

Baking soda also has antibacterial action and has been shown to kill streptococcus mutans bacteria – which contribute significantly to dental caries. For an incredibly effective paste for the care of teeth and gums, mix six parts baking soda to one part sea salt. Mix this mixture in a blender for 48 seconds, then pour it into a container, ready to use. Wet the end of your index finger and place a small amount of salt/bicarbonate mixture on your gums.

Rub the preparation on your teeth and gums, starting with the outer upper gum, then the inner one, followed by the outer lower gum and then the inner lower gum. Spit out the excess. After 10 minutes, rinse your mouth. This blend is incredibly effective at killing bacteria.

11 Teeth whitening

To whiten your teeth naturally, crush a very ripe strawberry and mix it to 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda. Spread this mixture on your teeth and leave on for 5 minutes. Then brush your teeth and rinse. This method should not be used more than once a week, as excessive use could damage your tooth enamel.
