Regional airliner Flybe cancels hundreds of flights over leasing delays

  • Travelers with confirmed reservations would be allowed to take a different airline at Flybe’s expense.
  • Flybe will continue to add flights later this year once it gets the delayed aircraft.

Flybe has reported hundreds of flight cancellations from 28th July to 29th October, just 12 weeks after it resumed operations. The airline has substantially reduced its summer operations, following British Airways and EasyJet.

In an open letter to concerned passengers, Flybe’s CEO, Dave Pflieger has accused two aircraft leasing companies of being accountable.¬† It is worth noting that the airline company intended to extend flights to both already-established cities and new places like Inverness, Aberdeen, Newcastle, and Southampton.

However, the two aircraft leasing companies won’t be able to meet their deadlines until after the summer, despite having been contracted to supply our additional planes.

The firm was able to locate and hire aircraft from two different airlines in Greece and Spain, but those aircraft are claimed to be still insufficient and would require few changes in the upcoming flight schedule due to the absence of additional aircraft needed for new flights.

As a result, Flybe was compelled to cut the number of flights from 28th July to 29th October. The currently available aircraft will support this new schedule fully, and the company will continue to add flights later this year once it gets the delayed aircraft.

Belfast City to Aberdeen, Inverness, and Newcastle as well as Birmingham to Aberdeen are among the affected routes. Travelers with confirmed reservations would be allowed to take a different airline at Flybe’s expense.

In other developments, Virgin Galactic has partnered with Aurora Flight Sciences to develop its next-gen twin-fuselage aircraft that will be used to transport the conglomerate’s rocket ship for space tourism.
